For those who don’t know me, I’m a red wine kinda girl. But living in the South of France means it can get seriously hot, and when it does, those classic, full-bodied Languedoc reds I usually love can feel a bit much. Enter Que du Grenache by Villa Dondona : my go-to red whether it’s cold and rainy or hot and sunny.

What’s lovely about this IGP Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert wine is that you can serve it at room temperature or slightly chilled, making it a perfect summer red, especially if you’re not in the mood for rosé or white. It’s also the wine I recommend most to friends who aren’t sure about red wine yet.
I first discovered this wine at one of the many summer wine fairs held in the villages around Montpellier. These events are a true goldmine for local gems, and this one instantly stood out. I later brought a few bottles to Camp Joy Retreats (an event I work on), where it turned out to be a total crowd-pleaser! So, should we pop open a bottle?
About Villa Dondona
Villa Dondona is a small, organic estate located just outside the village of Montpeyroux, in the heart of the Languedoc. The domaine is run by artist Jo Lynch and her husband, Dr. André Suquet, a former doctor turned winemaker. Together, they produce expressive, terroir-driven wines that beautifully reflect the wild, sun-drenched hillsides of this part of southern France. The label on Que du Grenache features Jo’s artwork, a lovely personal touch that makes the bottle just as eye-catching as what’s inside.
Tasting Notes : Que du Grenache by Villa Dondona

Appellation: IGP Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert
Grape: 100% Grenache
Producer: Villa Dondona (Montpeyroux, Languedoc)
Organic: Yes 🌿
On the nose, you get a burst of fresh red berries (raspberry, cherry, strawberry) followed by a touch of jammy black fruit (blackcurrant and blackberry) and a hint of spice.
On the palate, it’s just as delicious: light, fruity, and incredibly smooth, with silky tannins and just the right amount of indulgence. Think: summer pudding in a glass but for grown-ups.
If you usually reach for whites or rosés in the heat, this wine might just change your mind. It’s versatile, bright, and easy to love all year round whether you’re lounging in the sun or curled up on the sofa.
So next time you're craving a red that’s light, fresh, and full of southern charm, give Que du Grenache a try - it just might become your go-to too !
Cheers,
Ana x
